What Is Camp Eureka?
Camp Eureka is a week-long robotics and engineering camp hosted by our club during school breaks and intercession. The purpose of Camp Eureka is to spread science and technology information throughout the community and help our club fundraise for trips and parts. During camp, each student is placed in a group with one or two other students, which is mentored by one of the club members. This style of teaching encourages cooperation and creativity and provides students with individualized instruction from our members. It also ensures that all students find our camps educational and enjoyable! You can register for the upcoming Camp Eureka or read the Camp Eureka Blog Posts in the blogs tab! Keep reading this post to find out about our scholarship program!
Hilo Viking Robotics will be offering scholarships for students that are unable to pay tuition in whole and are in need of financial assistance. Two scholarships are available. In addition, forms to register for a scholarship are available! Please fill out the form in addition to your registration forms by clicking on the button below. The scholarship will cover $75 of the $175 of the fee for one session and will be awarded to applicants who best demonstrate their enthusiasm for robotics and engineering. You will be notified whether or not you got the scholarship by March 16th (Applications are due no later than March 15th). If you are requesting a scholarship for more than one child –please fill out a separate form for each child (limit 2 per household).

What will my child(s) be doing at Camp?
Each Camp Euerka we hold has a different theme and game/activity. Generally, and will be what is offered in the June Camp, is VEX IQ Robotics, where kids work with essentially upgraded lego pieces, to design, build, wire, program, and drive a robot. At camp, we split the kids into groups of 2 or 3 where they work with each other and an HVR mentor to try and conquer the challenge!
Where will I be dropping off and picking up my child(s)?
Pick up and drop off is in front of our cafeteria (and generally is throughout all of our camps). For morning session attendees, drop off is from 7:15 am – 8:15 am, and pick up is from 12:00 pm – 12:30 pm. For afternoon session attendees, drop off is from 12:30 pm – 1:15 pm, and pick up is from 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm. All attendees will be accompanied prior to parent/guardian arrival.
How do I turn in the registration form and payment?
Registration can be completed in 3 different ways (links can be found at the top of the page): our online google form application, scanning/digitally filling out our google document form and emailing it to us, or printing out the google document registration form and giving it to a HVR mentor on the first day of camp.
For payment, please give it to an HVR mentor on the first day of Camp (Our school office will no longer be accepting payment in envelopes due to school rules). Payment must be received no later than the second day of any camp or your child(s) will have to be revoked from the camp.
Where will the Camp be held?
Camp Euerka is generally held in either the Hilo High Campus Cafeteria or Ms. Dee’s classroom (C-206). The potluck and competition on the last day of camp will also be held there. This upcoming spring camp will be held in the cafeteria.
Who can sign up?
Any child 7-12 years old. (Exceptions made on a case by case basis. Please contact us for more information.)
How much does it cost?
The tuition is $175 per student per session. A student can attend both the morning and afternoon session which would cost $350. Scholarships are available for those unable to afford the tuition but are interested in attending. Information can be found above.
What does my child need to bring to camp?
If your child is attending both the morning and afternoon session, your child will need to bring lunch if they wish to eat during the intermission between the sessions (12:00 pm – 1:00 pm). During this intermission, the child can stay with the mentors and does not need to get picked up. Otherwise, students are not required to bring anything as snacks and water are provided; however, students are free to bring their own snacks and drinks.
