VEX Exhibition at Kealakehe HS

Dec 19, 2011   //   by mtakemoto   //   News  //  No Comments

This past weekend, the HVR team attended the VEX Exhibition at Kealakehe High School. This competition was an opportunity for all the teams on the Big Island to talk with other teams, show off their robots and their mad skills. As for how we did, HVR ended up taking first place! It was great to talk with the other teams and see what they did differently. A big mahalo to the Kealakehe Robotics team for putting this event together! It was a blast.

Back From Pan Pacific VEX

Dec 10, 2011   //   by mtakemoto   //   News  //  No Comments

Every year, the biggest VEX competition in the world is held right in our state, on the island of Oahu. Teams from all over the world are invited to join, and we had the privilege of being one of the 104 teams in the competition.

Hilo Viking Robotics improved immensely. This year, we made it through the seeding matches, placing 13th out of 104th. Our score was 6 wins, 0 ties, 1 loss (6-0-1). Together with our alliance partners Honoka’a and Iolani High school, we made it to the semi-finals. All in all, we believe that we’ve improved not just in terms of making it farther, but as a team. Every member of the team contributed to our victory. Well done, my friends.

Last but not least, a BIG thank you to all of our sponsors for making everything possible, and to our mentors and advisors for supporting 110% us every step of the way. Mahalo!

What is LEGO NXT?
LEGO NXT is a robotics system designed around the classic plastic building blocks that everyone knows and loves.  The NXT kit makes it possible for kids to create things using ordinary LEGOs, then make their designs come alive using motors, sensors and programming.  They can build a car that will find its way through a maze, or a powerful sumo-bot that will compete with other bots for the ring.  LEGO NXT is a great way to introduce your child to the world of robotics and the many opportunities it has to offer.
