While half of our team was in Honokaa competing for seeding, the other half stayed back in Hilo to complete a job no less important: manning the Ice Cream Jam.
The Big Island Band Directors’ Association Ice Cream Jam Fundraiser took place this past Saturday at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium. HVR was fortunate to take part in this fundraiser, and we were able to have an exhibit at the event.
We showcased our robot from this past year’s FIRST competition, shooting basketballs at curious children and ice cream eaters whom were pleasantly surprised. We estimate about 500 people came and saw our booth. The interest from the general public was incredibly great.
It seems to us that the publicity and community awareness for robotics or STEM programs in general have been rapidly growing these past couple of years. HVR will continue pursuing its vision of fostering our community with more opportunities and sources of interest in STEM for our upcoming generations.
