As with all Vex Robotics Competition games, Vex Sack Attack is played on a 12 foot x 12 foot field. There are two alliances, one red and one blue, composed of two teams each. Each robot is limited to an initial size of 18 inches by 18 inches by 18 inches. The object of the game is to score the most amount of points through the scoring methods set by the game. Teams compete in matches with a 15 second autonomous period followed by a 105 seconds of driver operated period.
This game, square 3 inch by 3 inch square sacks are the main scoring object which were scored in 3 main areas. The sacks were universal and not specific to any robot. The floor goals where the robots start are worth the least points, the 18 inch high troughs were the most commonly scored, and the 30 inch high triangular platform worth the most points. Two types of sacks were available, common green sacks and the lesser common golden sacks which doubled the point value of the goal it was located.
Robots started off limited to 18 inch cubes that can expand during the match. The troughs divide the red alliance side (where the two red alliance robots start) from the blue alliance side(where the two blue alliance robots start). Sacks could be removed from the troughs, triangles, and floor goals. Robots which were designed to fit under the troughs may go under to play defense, take sacks, or descore.
