As with all Vex Robotics Competition games, Vex Toss Up is played on a 12 foot x 12 foot field. There are two alliances, one red and one blue, composed of two teams each. Each robot is limited to an initial size of 18 inches by 18 inches by 18 inches. The object of the game is to score the most amount of points through the scoring methods set by the game. Teams compete in matches with a 15 second autonomous period followed by a 105 seconds of driver operated period.
Scoring objects this game were specific to their alliance, red balls could only be used by the red alliance and blue balls could only be used by the blue alliance. 5 inch Bucky balls were the most common scoring object with bigger beach ball like scoring objects being less common but worth more. To score, a robot must get the ball into one of the two zones that aren’t where the robot starts(the area past the ramp which is divided by the bars). Cylinders located on the far side of the field from the starting zone are also highly contested areas to score balls into. At the end of the match, robots can hang onto the bars at the starting zone for additional points.
